Unity Drum Theater was formed late in 2007 when it was first known as the Peace Academy Drumming and Dancing Group. The founder, Emmanuel C. Richardson started this group in his second year of senior secondary school. However after only four months the group was on the verge of collapse due to financial constraints for the purchase of drums and other equipment as it has already been mentioned. Despite these initial set-backs Emmanuel C. Richardson kept his vision alive, continuing to walk the path he felt was laid before him.
As Unity Drum Theater grew, it came not only to welcome adults and young people, supporting them in being re-energized through immersion in their traditional cultural practices, but needy young children were also welcomed not only for drumming/dancing but also being taught traditional arts and crafts.(batik, tie and dye, paintings, beads). Unity Drum Theater not only energizes and reawakens a CAN DO attitude in young people, but gives needy children tools for being able to earn an income for themselves and their families. Unity Drum Theater has changed the life of so many people and many people have found new strength and inspiration for their lives through the drumming, dancing, drama, singing, etc

BACKGROUND OF MEMBER
UNITY DRUM THEATER, is a spiritual and touching drumming, dancing, history telling and singing group open to all without any religious, political and country affiliations. cc
Not of color, who you are and where you are from but of passion and desire.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVE.
1. To wake-up the spirit of drumming, dancing, drama and singing which count great part in our total life as our culture in Africa.

2. To offer art training to people who are willingly to learn and orphans or needy children.

3. Liaise with Voluntary organization for volunteering programs as well as culture exchange.

4. To bring back to life our culture inheritance, and also to develop the CAN DO spirit of people through drumming and dancing
5. On this process also create business purpose through workshops (drumming, dancing, batik, tie and dye and also beads design), Selling or special orders(drums, beads, batik fabric) and also Offering International performance with any amount of number you request.
6. To help in youth development in Ghana. For betterment of our youth.

PERFOMANCE CONTENT
The group performs and shares different traditional dances and rhythms of Africa.The group are capable of performing at any time that is called upon. Some of the dances are kpanlongo, kundum, boboobo, gyira, sekyi, tora, bawa, Djembe dances from all Africa continents. For precaution or free form we say we are the master of all.

My name is EMMANUEL CHARLES RICHARDSON, The founder and director of UNITYDRUM THEATER. African music and dance has been my life since I was born to the earth of Ghana in Africa. At the age of five my father started teaching me drumming but different from traditional drumming. My father was a great musician on the Ghana Cape Coast then. When I was nine years of age my dad and my elder brother took me to a group called the Twerampong Traditional Drumming and Dancing Group at the Cape Coast Castle. They knew where my source of motivation in life came from. I never knew I could dance but I always see the music in me as my passion. I humbly submitted to my leaders in the group and learnt drumming and dancing very well and everything else they were willing to teach me. When I was in junior high school my dad died and it was like I have lost all my life. But I never give up on what I do. POWER (Unity Drum, in Cape Coast, Ghana) This dance is a type of dance which deals with the collective ideas from different angles of some traditional dances in Africa together to be danced at any occasion. The dance contains war dance steps and also peace movement of dance steps. So it suit any occasion that will be called upon for performance. The dance was introduced by a youth called Richardson who is the leader of UNITY DRUM Ghana (Cape Coast). He composed this dance also to honor the ancestors to show them how grateful he is having their knowledge of creativity and artistic skills. He also create this dance to show to the world that dance is dynamic, which means dance is not stagnant, instead, it changes in forms and values at all time to show power we have over creativity and being artistic. The dance contains series of drums which are to be used and also costumes to be worn when dancing this kind of dance.

MBEN ESSOUN (SEVEN HORNS)

Mben essoun which is a local language name in fantse in Ghana, also meaning seven horns. It is A Traditional AIROPHONE instrument played in Ghana which involve only seven or less people to play. It mostly played at Big ceremonies that involves the attendance of the chief, president or any highly authorized person. It is also performed during the funeral of any of this people mentioned above.
