This had been the first time teaching dancing at the beach. It was lovely and my student really enjoyed it very much. We sometime had swimming after dancing and sweating. Haha its fun. COME TO UNITY DRUM THEATER TO HAVE SUCH EXPERIENCE.

It was fun in Taiwan but yet it was also the time i needed there to share with them about our culture and our heritage. Unity Drum Theater is an open minded group to share and motivate everybody to do what ever they are doing with heart and with good spirit.We love and care!!!!

Kete dance has always been a court dance for chiefs and members of the Royal Household and the favorite of the Asantehene. The dance came into prominence during the reign of Osei Tutu I (The first King of Asante Kingdom in Ghana). It is used to be the exclusive preserve of the “Asantehene (King of Asante) and it was played for him and his wives. Later, he allowed some of his paramount chiefs to have Kete ensemble in their court. This time the Kete dance was made to welcome the president and his board of members. Among the groups in Cape coast(Ghana) Unity Drum had been the most instrumental group performing at so many ceremonies and occasions. This time it was to perform for the president and his board members at the Parliament. It was very amazing and powerful. The top shall we always remain and even grow more. Mben essoun which is a local language name in fantse in Ghana, also meaning seven horns. It is A Traditional AIROPHONE instrument played in Ghana which involve only seven or less people to play. It mostly played at Big ceremonies that involves the attendance of the chief, president or any highly authorized person. It is also performed during the funeral of any of this people mentioned above. Mben Essoun have lot of saying when playing. Every occasion have kind of style and language to play with the horn. THIS IS JUST A SUMMARY OF IT IF YOU WANT MORE WATCH OUT FOR IT!!! Drumming and dancing had always been the strength for Africa Drum and dance for life!!

Since African Footprint International appointed me to teach their guest student from Denmark for one month. I never shook off my head but i took it as my responsibility to impact what i have for them. It had taken only one for this people to dance and drum very well, which seems to be magic for everyone around me. But i think it is not me but it how the student themselves meant to learn, which makes it very easy to impact into them what i have. They had been able to master five dance within a month then there is hope for everyone to achieve everything we desire in life at anytime we wish to have. BE SERIOUS AND NEVER JOKE WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE. It is just behind the door!!

Music is produced by the interaction between two surfaces or object or movement either beating, scrapping, hit together or in oral form like singing etc. It could be electrical or just object interaction and also could be in vibrant form. Music in Ghana is put into three categories. They are OCCASIONAL MUSIC, INCIDENTAL MUSIC and RECREATIONAL MUSIC. They are performed accordance with the purpose and event. Such same it dances always go by it.It must be noted that African dancer’s movement are not only influenced by the sort impact of a piece of music but also the rhythmic structure, which is set up in the piece. Dancers derived their motor feelings from this rhythmic structure whose elements they articulate in their movement. DRUM AND DANCE FOR LIFE!!

Unity Drum Theater was formed late in 2007 when it was first known as the Peace Academy Drumming and Dancing Group. The founder, Emmanuel C. Richardson started this group in his second year of senior secondary school. However after only four months the group was on the verge of collapse due to financial constraints for the purchase of drums and other equipment as it has already been mentioned. Despite these initial set-backs Emmanuel C. Richardson kept his vision alive, continuing to walk the path he felt was laid before him. As Unity Drum Theater grew, it came not only to welcome adults and young people, supporting them in being re-energized through immersion in their traditional cultural practices, but needy young children were also welcomed not only for drumming/dancing but also being taught traditional arts and crafts.(batik, tie and dye, paintings, beads). My name is EMMANUEL CHARLES RICHARDSON, The founder and director of UNITYDRUM THEATER. African music and dance has been my life since I was born to the earth of Ghana in Africa. At the age of five my father started teaching me drumming but different from traditional drumming. My father was a great musician on the Ghana Cape Coast then. When I was nine years of age my dad and my elder brother took me to a group called the Twerampong Traditional Drumming and Dancing Group at the Cape Coast Castle. They knew where my source of motivation in life came from. I never knew I could dance but I always see the music in me as my passion. I humbly submitted to my leaders in the group and learnt drumming and dancing very well and everything else they were willing to teach me. When I was in junior high school my dad died and it was like I have lost all my life. But I never give up on what I do. I continued but stopped my formal group and became my own master by teaching foreign and local p
